Features of NBR
Oil resistance: Excellent tolerance to hydrocarbon liquids such as fuel, lubricating oil, hydraulic oil (better than natural rubber and chloroprene rubber). Widely used in oil seals, fuel pipes and other
oil-contacting scenes.
Wear resistance: High friction coefficient (0.5-1.0) and tear resistance (≥20 MPa), suitable for dynamic sealing. Used for high-wear parts such as industrial rollers and seals.
Temperature range: Conventional type: -30°C to +120°C; special formulas (such as adding PVC) can be extended to -50°C to +150°C. Suitable for high-temperature environments in automobile engine compartments or machinery in cold areas.
Air tightness: Low gas permeability (oxygen permeability is only 1/5 of natural rubber). Used for pneumatic seals and tire inner liners.Disadvantages: Poor ozone resistance and resistance to polar solvents (ketones, esters), which need to be optimized through modification (such as hydrogenation, blending). Protective coating is required for use outdoors or in strong oxidizing environments.
The application of NBR
1. Automotive industry (accounting for more than 60% of NBR usage)
Sealing system: oil seals, O-rings, crankshaft rear oil seals (temperature resistance 120°C+).
Fuel lines: fuel hoses, fuel tank seals (resistant to gasoline and diesel penetration).
2. Petroleum and energy
Drilling equipment: blowout preventer seals, drill pipe jackets (resistant to mud and crude oil corrosion).
Oil pipelines: flange gaskets, valve seals (pressure resistance ≥10 MPa).
3. Consumer goods and medical
Gloves: oil-resistant industrial gloves (NBR content 30%-35%).
Food-grade applications: FDA-compliant conveyor belts (sulfur-free vulcanized formula).
4. Other fields
Aerospace: fuel tank seals (hydrogenated nitrile HNBR, temperature resistance 150°C).
Home appliances: washing machine water inlet pipes, dishwasher seals (detergent resistant).
