Overview of LDPE(Low density polyethylene)

Low-density polyethylene （LDPE）is a synthetic resin using a high pressure process via free radical polymerization of ethylene and is therefore also called “high-pressure polyethylene”. It is suitable for being used in all types of thermoplastic processing processes, such as injection molding, extrusion molding, blow molding, rotomolding, coating, foaming, thermoforming, hot-jet welding and thermal welding.

Product performance of LDPE(Low density polyethylene)

Low density polyethylene has the following characteristics:

1.The film is milky white transparent and soft. The strength is lower than hdPE, and the impact strength is higher than HDPE.

2.Cold resistance, low temperature and high temperature resistance. Thicker film can withstand the sterilization process of soaking in 90℃ hot water.

3.Good moisture-proof performance, stable chemical properties, insoluble in general solvents.

4.It has a large air permeability, so when used as easily oxidized food packaging, the storage period of its contents should not be too long.

5.Long period of uv and heat will be aging, affecting its physical properties and dielectric properties.

Application of LDPE(Low density polyethylene)

Film grade

LDPE is mainly used in the production of film/sheet, coating, injection molding and so on. In 2017, the consumption of film/thin slice was the most, accounting for 48.7%; It is expected that thin film/thin sheet will remain the largest consumption segment in the future, and the proportion of thin film/thin sheet consumption may rise slightly to about 49% in 2040.

Plastic film plays a huge role in industry, agriculture and other fields, and has become an indispensable part of production and life. LDPE is mainly used for film products, such as agricultural film, ground covering film, agricultural film, vegetable greenhouse film, etc. Packaging film such as candy, vegetables, frozen food packaging; Liquid packaging with blow film (milk, soy sauce, juice, tofu, soy milk); Heavy packaging bag, shrink packaging film, elastic film, lining film; Construction film, general industrial packaging film and food bags, etc.

Injection molding grade

LDPE is also used for injection molding products, such as small containers, LIDS, daily products, plastic flowers, injection molding - stretch - blow containers. Packaging materials for medical devices, medicines and food, extruded pipes and plates, wire and cable cladding, profiles, thermal forming products, etc. Blow molding hollow molding products, such as food containers dairy products and jam, medicine, cosmetics, chemical products containers, tanks, etc.

Coating grade

Low density polyethylene coating products are mainly used in paper, cardboard, BOPP, BOPET, BOPA, aluminum foil and other substrates after extrusion coating of food, liquid, powder, medicine, agricultural materials, chemicals and other products, currently widely used in film wrapping paper, bowl, cup, woven bag coating, label transfer film, photo paper film, Soft compound packaging of food and medicine, dairy, beverage, liquid aseptic packaging and other high-end packaging industry.

Atificial flower grade

LDPE artificial flower grade is mainly used for artificial flowers and minia-scape. It can also be used for textiles coating in making shoes, clothes, cases and bags, sofa, balls and car ornaments. In addition, it can be used for melt coating in expressway and railway isolation fences, municipality-use guardrails and chemical equipment for anticorrosion purposes. With the development of technologies for making high and medium-end, high-value-added synthetic leather using ultra-fine fiber, LDPE artificial flower grade is now also being used in the production of ultra-fine fiber-derived synthetic leather.

Wire & Cable Grade

Low density POLYETHYLENE cable base material products are mainly used for the production of high pressure chemical crosslinked polyethylene insulation material and low pressure silane crosslinked polyethylene insulation material.

Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA)

EVA can be processed by many different methods, such as injection molding, extrusion molding, blow molding, calendering and foaming. It is principally used in the production of packaging material, agricultural film, injection-molded products, cable material, foamed plastics, master batch carriers, blending toughening material and damping soundproof material. It can also be used in the production of hot melt adhesive, carpet backing, wax-based coatings and shoe soles. Through hollow molding, EVA can be used for making expandable hoses, micro-irrigation tubes and other types of flexible hoses.

3.Globally, approximately 50% of LDPES are used in film/sheet production, with approximately 10 million tons of LDPES used in this sector in 2017.
